Round Square is a world-wide association of more than 60 schools on five continents sharing unique and ambitious goals. Students attending Round Square schools such as Box Hill, make a commitment to strive not only for academic excellence but for personal development and individual responsibility. They achieve these goals by participating in community service, work projects, exchange programmes and adventuring, which can, and often does, take them half way around the world.
Dr. Kurt Hahn, the educational philosopher whose revolutionary ideas about education inspired Round Square, believed that schools should have a greater purpose beyond just preparing students for college and university. He believed that it was crucial for young people to prepare for life by having them face it directly within a supportive but challenging school environment, in ways that would demand courage, generosity, imagination, principle and resolution.
Round Square embodies this educational revolution.
All member schools share the view that students learn most effectively by doing. Through activities, they become engaged with a process of on-going self-confrontation and formation. Learning becomes fun and develops the whole person academically, physically, culturally and spiritually.
