Our junior years go on expeditions twice each year. Destinations may include visits to North Yorkshire, the Lake and Peak Districts; the Brecon Beacons, where walking, caving, canoeing and visiting local historical sites are part of the week away. Expeditions are a fun way to achieve at a number of levels. The purpose of each trip is to put into practice what has been learned during Outdoor Education lessons and of course to have great fun at the same time; getting thoroughly wet and muddy together .. and this includes the staff!
For years 10 and above, we organise expeditions in the last week of the summer term to all sorts of exotic destinations; for example there may be a performing arts trip to Tuscany, a business studies trip to Berlin; and a languages trip to Spain. In holiday time, some students have taken part in expeditions in the Alps and Drakensburg Mountains in South Africa and used the experience to count towards their Gold level Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. We also organise an annual ski trip for interested students, and occasionally their parents!
The invaluable lessons learnt on these journeys are priceless in their own right and also contribute to Box Hill students having maturity beyond their years without losing any of the fun of childhood. This makes Box Hill students stand out from the crowd.
