The study of Fashion and Textiles provides the opportunity to develop observational drawing skills and gain experience of using different media. The course provides students with the ability to work in a variety of materials and learn different processes related to fashion and textiles. Students will gain a working knowledge of artists, craftspeople and designers and relate this to their own work.
Pupils at Box Hill School have the option to study Fashion and Textiles at GCSE or as part of the Visual Arts Programme for IB. All students will keep a sketchbook which will document their studies over the two years and will produce final outcomes of work that express their own individual ideas. The course is broad enough to experiment with art textiles and sculpture and fashion design.
Fashion and Textiles involves a great deal of practical work. Pupils will experiment with a wide range of fabric decorating techniques and will learn how to design and make clothing and soft furnishings.
At GCSE students take the Edexcel Art- Textiles Option. IB Visual Art is offered at Higher and Standard Level. The course includes a study of art history, sketchbook work, and 12-18 final outcomes which vary through fashion and textiles, ceramics, fine art, photography and digital media.
