Physics is the most fundamental of the sciences as it seeks to explain the universe itself, from the smallest particles to vast galaxies. Physics is fascinating and can be fun and at its heart it is about finding things out and about understanding what lies behind every-day phenomena.
Due to the mathematical, analytical and problem-solving skills that the study of physics develops, it is an excellent general academic subject to study for progression to higher education, training, or employment. Physics enables you to progress to many science-based courses, including physics, chemistry, electronics, astronomy, materials science and medical physics and it is essential for many engineering courses.
All pupils at Box Hill School study Physics as part of a broad, balanced curriculum until the end of Year 9. It is a popular choice at IGCSE, where students are able to choose to study one, two or all three of the sciences. IGCSE students take Edexcel IGCSE Physics. It also forms an important part of the IB programme where it is offered at Higher and Standard Level.
Laboratory work is a significant feature of all the courses and it is used to back up the theory and to develop experimental, analytical and investigative skills.
